The Colorado Quartet has been a groundbreaking ensemble for nearly 30 years. Catapulted onto the scene by back to back wins at the First Banff International String Quartet Competition and the Naumburg Chamber Music award in May of 1983, it was the first all-women quartet to attain international stature. Since then the Quartet has played over 1200 concerts worldwide, and is the first female quartet in history to perform the complete Beethoven Quartet Cycle in North America and Europe; its recording of the cycle is available on the Parnassus label. The Colorado Quartet is deeply committed to communicating to a wide variety of audiences, from grade-school children to sophisticated audiences to prison inmates. Their repertoire ranges from Haydn through contemporary composers, and they are renowned teachers, having been Quartet-in-Residence at Bard College from 2000 until 2009. Their recordings have received accolades from critics the world over, and have been the recipient of grants from funding organizations throughout the US. The Quartet is represented by Joanne Rile Artists Management.
The UMW Flute Festival is free and the public is invited.
